How to make a resume? Remember that a resum is a summary of the education you have recieved and all the work experience you have had. So, the first thing that must be done when in the process of writing a resum, is to recall all this information. You must bring to memory the universities you attended for your undergraduate degrees as well as any post-graduate you might also have; remember every activity you took part in during those formation years as well as each and every honor you might have earned, be it academic, athletic or given by the community; all the jobs you have held, paid or not, and last but not least, nake a list of all your skills: languages you can speak, computer programs you can handle, any special ability you have the good fortune of having should be taken into consideration and duly noted. When all this process of recollection is over, you must then focus on what job it is you are applying for and of course would like to obtain. It is extremely important that your resum be tailor-made and fitted for the job in question and/or the person in charge of hiring so that it will prove effective in landing you a job. As in any situation where one is basically selling onself, it is best and highly recommendable to stress the good points, to highlight ones strengths and try to not make the weaknesses too obvious. Remember, they are not assets. If posible, place all your best qualities at the top of your resum. Human Resources managers, supervisors or any perspon in charge of the selection process for new candidates for any given position at a company will not have much time to look over your application with great detail, so its probably best if the first thing they see are your positive resources. That will instantly make you stand out in a good way. When writing your resum, be sure to use lots of verbs, action words, to convey the idea that you are a proactive, hands-on person who solves problems and gets things done. Nobody wants to hire a mediocre, herd-following employee who lacks initiative and is goal-free. Never forget to include your contact information: home phone number, mobile phone number, email address and any other way that your potential employers can get in touch with you. It would be a real bummer if you missed out on a job just because the manager didnt have any way to let you know about an interview or that you were hired. Never lie about any of the information given on your resum. Lies have an uncanny way of being discovered when you least expect it, and when it is less convenient. Remember that companies can actually follow up on the references you cited, cross check your previous employment or just simply verify whatever was said on your resum. So keep it clean. All in all, just put on paper the best version of you possible, and you wont lose. |
