Cozyin' Up to Winter

Author: Mary Brown

Doesnt winter just make you want to light lots of candles? Me too! Here are some more ideas to cozy up your home for winter!

Dont have a fireplace? Make a collection of similar colored candles along a wall- mounted wide decorative ledgeit will feel like a mantle. Hang a piece of art above it, and you have really created that cozy fireplace feeling.

Do have a fireplace but dont want the hassles of burning wood? Get that double row of candle holders that sit in the fireplace. Being a wood fire aficionado, I was amazed the first time I lit all of the candles at how much light they gave off and the ambiance it added to the room. I was a candle girl from then on and never looked back!

If you group candles on a tray, remember theyre portablethey can go to whatever room you want to cheer up. Dont forget the bathroom...nothing like a luxurious soak in a tub of bubbles to the glow of candles, soft music and your favorite read. (Be sure to hang the Do Not Disturb sign on the bathroom door!)

Nestle candles into a shallow bowl filled with sand, rice, pebbles, faux pearls or beads.

Add faux fur pillows or a throw to your sofaso warm to the touch! Also use it to snuggle under by the fire or watch a TV movie. Theyre also a luxurious touch to a bedroom on the bed or a chair. You can even use one on a chair in the entry to add a little drama coming into your home.

Sleep on a king-size down pillow and drift off and wake up in luxury. Add a down pad to the top of your mattress. (Anything that creates the B&B feeling everyday is cozy not only for winter but all year long!)

Get the biggest, softest cotton bathroom rug you can findthe moment your toes touch that softness, you will think you are at a spa. Chenille rugs are great for that feeling and now come in more colors than white and off white.

Add some small accent lights to your home. You know the kindsoft glow, dont take a lot of electricity but add lots of coziness. Consider adding them to your entry, bathroom or even kitchen island. Dont forget those highly decorative nightlights you can indulge in now choose from fancy shades with beads, feather or faux fur trims.

Exchange some of your artwork with themes that make you feel cozy in winter. A snowy scene can take you away to another place and time.

Place decorative colored glass items (vases, bowls, etc.) so the daylight or candlelight catches them. Try window sills, green house windows in the kitchen, and window ledges by the tub.

As you can see, there are an endless array of ideas that can be used to create a cozy home. If you would like a winter design walk-through for additional seasonal ideas, call One Day Design at 1.888.567.3334 to schedule an appointment.
