Poker Blaghers

Author: Murphy James

Shakespeare as a poker blogger?

Consider this from the poker blog, Chicks Dig Poker Geeks, which is written, not by the Chicks, alas, but by a 24 year old Geek from Los Angeles.

I weep for this blog, as I have neglected it on so many levels.

Wow!

Forget about boring entries on poker. Write us some more of this good stuff, Geek.

Unfortunately, the Geek abandoned this brief contribution to literature and returned to a poker blah blah blahg. How I played this hand. How I played that hand. And the beat (so many times, a bad beat) goes on.

Is it possible to escape the blah in poker blogs? Worth a try.

Poker Portal is a site that lists lots of lists including a list of poker blogs. Good place to start.

There is, for example, a poker blog called Ralph Naders Chocolate Poker Jam. It has not been updated since February, 2004, and its last entry begins: Im happy to report my first good week in my short poker carrer (sic). Since its unlikely that Mr. Nader would misspell career, it probably was written by someone other than the public interest advocate. Since it has no recent entries, it appears that the one good week in 2004 was the last good week that Ralph Chocolate Jam had. Lets move on.

This is Not a Poker Blog looked promising, but alas, disappointment from the very beginning with, Lately, I've been playing in cash games like a total lemur. Whats a lemur?

Donkey Puncher looked like it might be about something other than poker. Its tagline is Sports, booze, poker, strip clubs, and really bad television. Well, thats elevating a poker blog to a higher level. And on this blog, there is interesting news about film critic, Richard Roeper, of Ebert and Roeper, playing in a Chicago Hold em charity tournament. Lets give the Donkey a Thumbs Up for letting us know!

Cave Butter seemed to have nothing to do with poker, and a quick look uncovered this: When I was in business school, one of my econ classmates gave a presentation on doing business in Portugal, mentioning in passing that it is the oldest country on earth. Hmm, didnt know that. Wonder if its true? Depends on what the meaning of is is, perhaps. The next entry was on poker, so research on the history of Portugal must be put aside.

The Tao of Poker is written by the ubiquitous Dr. Pauly (Pauly McGuire), a writer with another half dozen blogs. In a recent Tao post, he reassured us that, The eagle at Bellagio's Conservatory is bird flu free. Phew!

Thanks, Pauly. If there must be a poker blog post, it is refreshing to get beyond the usual stuff of, I went to Vegas, got drunk, lost my ass, broke up with my girlfriend, heres how I played every stinking hand, and Im going back next week. Is there a country song in there or what?

Paulys prose has come to the attention of the University of Southern Californias Online Journalism Review, which notes, The Tao of Poker is now McGuire's perfect writing notebook, written as a stream of consciousness about everything he experiences -- from Subway workers he hits on to poker stars he urinates next to.

Hm, theres another country song in there but just cant get the rhyme right.
