Baseball fans only wish they knew the whole story. There is something in the wind and before it blows over we might just have to weather the storm. Seriously, good fans, are you totally aware that the Montreal Expos no longer exist? Our Montreal Expos are now our Washington Nationals. Things happen and unless you follow the game almost daily you could find yourself clueless. What is the old saying? "If you snooze you loose." This shift from Montreal to Washington is not such a big deal except for the fact that many fans just may not have noticed. The history of our game of baseball is a constant changing of players from one uniform to another and teams from one city to another. If you want to get a capsule report to review some of the history and changes just move the mouse over to the refresh button. Very quickly I'm going to try to bring some history just to refresh the scene. Old history major league baseball or professional team in the late 1800's roughly 1870 it was known as the National Association then it evolved into the National League and a companion group of competitors called the American Association. Then calm and cooler heads determined we could all have a ball, ballgame that is, if we simply agreed to cooperate. The baseball world became the National League and the American League around 1901. Now we got popcorn, cracker jacks, cold colas and the turnstiles are clicking clacking and the club owners were hearing that sweet sound of Ka-Ching. From Associations to Leagues to two (2) well organized Major Leagues the National and American Leagues of baseball. Baseball teams and the club owners are just like ole bossy, The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. Somebody should call the moving vans for it's time to move on to greener pastures. Test the waters and see if we will sink or swim at least we get new uniforms. I will summarize some of our team and city changes without fanfare or details: Boston Braves--Milwaukee Braves--Atlanta Braves Brooklyn Dodgers--Los Angeles Dodgers New York Giants--San Francisco Giants Milwaukee Brewers--St. Louis Browns--Baltimore Orioles Philadelphia Athletics--Kansas City Athletics--Oakland Athletics Washington Senators--Minnesota Twins Los Angeles Angels--California Angels--Anaheim Angels Washington Senators--Texas Rangers Seattle Pilots--Milwaukee Brewers Oh! Yea. Montreal Expos--Washington Nationals To cap it all off if I only had me a cap from each of the original teams plus the new teams then I would be chopping in high cotton. Hope you baseball fans enjoy this quick review of the changes from city to city with our game of baseball and where it goes. Batter Up---Let's Play Ball. |
