What You Need To Know About DJs

Author: Steve Valentino

Today, people have an option today to select from numerous entertainment options in their spare time. For those who simply love dancing, options are no longer limited to family weddings or proms. Dancing to the beat of hip-hop, trance and R&B are sure ways to reduce stress levels after a long days work. While in the last decade, the options for dance music was limited to just a cassette on play mode, today, disc jockeys have revolutionized the entertainment arena. Disc jockeys are popularly known as DJs or deejays.

Until recently, the job of a disc jockey was not looked upon as a serious career option. Deejays mostly played at local club events and festivals. Eventually, deejays even performed the task of masters of ceremony at special events. DJs are often invited to play at weddings, church parties, school functions, private parties and special occasions. In most cases, disc jockeying is taken up as a part-time profession.

Some DJs travel with their own sound systems and play from an extensive collection of pre-recorded music or may even create live mixes. DJs are required to have a good ear for music, without which they cant be successful in this profession. There are a number of institutions that impart knowledge regarding mixing and creating sounds and this helps amateurs turn to professionals.

Disc jockeys often select pre-recorded music from their personal collection of music to suit the tastes of an audience. With the help of mixers and controllers they can create multiple music beats and innovative sounds that are unique. A talented deejay endeavors to create an interesting mix of music that encourages people to get on the dance floor.

The term disc jockey was first used to refer to radio announcers who played popular gramophone records, known as discs. DJs play a variety of music, ranging from the usual house, club and hip-hop to pop, salsa and blues to entertain and involve audiences all over the world.
