For most women, a skin care regimen of applying creams, moisturizers, tonics, lotions, and the like is part of the morning and evening routines. Why do women put themselves through this? They do it primarily to combat the signs of aging, and to maintain youthful looks and beautiful skin!
However, before you put any skin care product on your face, you should know your skin type, is it normal, dry, oily or combination skin (mixed skin)? In addition, Some women probably do not realize that what they are putting on their skin may actually be undermining what they are trying to prevent to begin with.
Dry Skin: Dry skin is a common problem especially in the winter season. Central heating of home and other buildings is very dying to the skin. Your skin needs moisture to stay smooth and supple, else you will have dry skin, also known as xerosis.
Oily Skin: How can you tell if your skin is oily? Answer: It usually has a shine to it. Oily skin can be prone to black heads and acne. Oily skin contains a lot of sebum which helps prevent the skin from drying out. However, oily skin tends to attract more dirt and dust than dry skin.
Combination Skin:
For those with combination skin, the biggest frustration is caring for it properly. Having both dry and oily skin areas on your face can make skin care seem almost impossible. There are, however, things that you can do to care for and keep your combination skin healthy and feeling good. First of all, make sure you are cleansing every day using a mild cleanser on your entire face. Use the cleanser twice a day, preferably before bed at night and after get up in the morning. These are the times your face most needs to be cleansed anyway, but if you have combination skin it is imperative.
To make your skin looks and feels the same, normalize to gain a balance between the oily and dry areas. In order to accomplish this feat, you want to look for products that are made for such normalization. For instance, ones that contain alpha hydroxyl acids (fruit acids or AHAs) or retinol will work best. Retinol are a vitamin A derivative, which helps you gain more normal and even looking skin. The reason AHA creams are so beneficial to your skin is that they area catalyst for skin cell regeneration. They expose the healthier skin cells beneath them by burning off or removing the top layer of skin cells (or the too oily and too dry ones).
