Small Gestures Enduring Memories

Author: Bill White and Rasheed Ali

When was the last time you took 30 seconds to tell someone how important they are to your life?

We all get caught up in our day to day rituals and fast paced lifestyles. This causes us to forget to stop and smell the roses once in awhile.

In every facet of your life there is someone who has done something to benefit you in some way. Could you take a moment to speak a kind word to them, or perhaps write them a little note of thanks?

This little gesture of kindness and appreciation can do so much to instill a sense of love and goodwill towards you, that it by itself could take you to a higher status in your job, a closer relationship with your parents or partner, or even change your entire life.

When you express your gratitude, be specific. Let the person know exactly why you appreciate them. Give praise quickly after an event happens and address exactly what it is you appreciate.

If you tell someone they are a terrific friend, it will have some impact and meaning. If you tell them you appreciate tremendously how they came right over after the argument you had with your spouse and how much better they made you feel just being willing to listen, they will feel a hundred times more appreciated.

You can bet by expressing gratitude for specific actions, you'll be likely to get the same help again.

Another thing that will magnify gratitude is doing so in public. The more people who witness your gratitude toward another person, the greater impact your appreciation will have on that person.

I challenge you to express your gratitude to someone in your life today.
