Party Etiquette and Manners

Author: Gail Leino

When throwing a party, party etiquette is very important. After the invitations have been sent, the food has been made and the party clothes are on, the party is ready to begin. As the first guest walks in, it's time for the host to play the part. Make sure to greet each guest as they enter the party.

If this is the first time you are meeting the person, introduce yourself by name and as the host. Make a new comer feel comfortable by pointing out people they may already know or introducing them to new people. Be available to all guests to answer questions like the whereabouts of the bathroom, the whereabouts of the buffet table and anything else a guest might ask.

The responsibility of running a smooth problem free party falls on the shoulders of the host. Plan everything out ahead of time. Set a time for the food to come out, the presents to be opened and a time for the games to be played. This doesn't have to be a strict schedule, just something to go by.

Save shopping time by purchasing online. We found unique plates, cups, napkins and any other party decorations at online party supplies stores. A host should always keep their cool. Don't get rattled if things aren't going right. The important thing is that the guests believe everything is going according to plan. They wouldn't know if you burned all of the appetizers and had to rely entirely on chips and dip.

Party goers want to feel comfortable, relax and have a good time. Be aware of the things around you. If there are two guests who don't get along, make sure they don't have to endure an uncomfortable setting by having to sit together. Know the needs of your guests and try to meet them. The best thing you can do as a host is be confident and comfortable because it will rub off on your guests.
